I found both Rwanda and Uganda to be very safe places, and you'll love the gorillas!!!

I travelled to Rwanda and Uganda in January. I didn't have any problems in either country. Like anywhere, it depends which part of the country you travel to. There are lots of reputable tour companies who can use to make everything easier. They are fantastic countries and visiting the gorillas is a tremendous experience.

Both would be safe if you are going to the areas where you can see the gorillas. I had no problems.

Rwanda was easier logistically, less humid when I went in July, and slightly better viewing conditions. But Uganda was very good also.

I felt more at ease in any part of Rwanda than I did even in downtown Arusha, Tanzania.

Don't know as much with Uganda.
