Safari & Cape Town this December

3 of us are traveling to SA this Dec. we'd like to do a 3-5 day safari out of Joberg and then spend 5 days in cape town and a few days in the wine region.

Does anyone have suggestions for good safari outfitters that aren't super lux but still have good places to stay in that are reasonably priced? Since this is the high season $$ are definately a concern.

Also we'd love to find an apartment in Cape Town- any ideas??

We stayed here last Dec, really enjoyed the apartment - http://www.safarinow.com/go/CapeTownSeaPointBeachRd/
Dec is high season and you may already be too late for the more popular places. Many of them fill up a year in advance at this time, so make your decisions quickly.

Hi Stormylil

My daughter booked an excellent trip to South Africa earlier in the year with a company called Annesen Tours run by Henrik Annesen, a Danish national who now lives in South Africa. From what I can gather he sets up custom tours (from backpacking to luxury) all over Southern Africa.

I know my daughter's tour cost Euro 2510 per person for 15 days, which I don't think was expensive for what they received.

The trip started in Cape Town and included Cape Point, the winelands, Robben Island, Table Mountain and then continued up the Garden Route to Port Elizabeth stopping along the way at the various points of interest like Cango Caves, Knysna and Storms River.

From Port Elizabeth they flew to Durban to stay at Hluhluwe Game Reserve, and on via Swazliand to the Kruger National Park and then on to Johannesburg to fly home.

The tour included accommodation on a B & B basis, a private guide/driver, vehicle hire, all activities but not the air.

Sheila and her friends thoroughly enjoyed the trip and will definitely use Henrik again. If you are interested he can be contacted via email at [email protected]

All the best with your planning, but just remember that December is high season!

Litty that is great info and sounds like a fantastic trip, I'll look into that also!

We are thinking of doing the self drives in Kruger, does anyone have any comments on that and/or places they stayed that they really liked?
