Sabi Sands

I just realized I previously posted under the rather unspecific heading of South Africa! Apologies!

So many of you helped with our trip to Tanzania I thought I would try again! We are going to SA in September and am including Sabi Sands. I have heard good things about Mala Mala, Londolozi, Singita and Leopard Hills. I do love accomodations that have something unique about them. if that helps. But the quality of the guides is key. we did Tanzania with some of CC Africa properties and the guides were truly fanatastic-made a big difference. Any insights for Sabi Sands would be appreciated! Thanks! Nancie

Hi Nancie

Being an obsessive gameviewer and to me, great gameviewing comes with great rangers, for me, MalaMala is the place to go! Presently it is my only gameviewing destination, and over the years I have been to quite a few! In saying that, you mention the accomodations, so if that is what is most important to you, then Rattray's at MalaMala is luxurious accomodation and has the same gameviewing as Main Camp, MalaMala as both camps are on the same property.

I have always enjoyed my stays at Singita in the past, but for the extraordinary cost and good but not great gameviewing, it no longer is an option for me. At Londolozi, I have had one dreadful experience and one great experience, but have not been there since it has changed hands. Also have been to Ivory Lodge Lion Sands, and had some good gameviewing there, but again, paid a lot more money there as compared to MalaMala, and for me, the gameviewing is not the same as MalaMala.

I have not stayed at other accomodations around this area of the Sabi Sands, but September is a fairly dry month for them so viewing is made better at MalaMala where they have the Sand River running north to south through the property. Londolozi also has a smaller section of the Sand River running on their property. Most of the other places that do not have permanent water have water-pumped dams.

I wish you good luck in deciding on a destination, and I would not be leaving it too much longer as September is not that far away!

Kind regards

Kaye

You can add Lion Sands Ivory Lodge to your list. It rated #2 in world wide resorts in a major British publication.
