Patty and Sandi, I had a bad experience with this a few years ago. I had called one travel agent and I believe we spoke twice over the phone. He booked the camps I had discussed before I even had a quote from him. Perhaps he felt he wanted them in place and that is all right. I had given him no money because I didn't like his quote. He then went on vacation and I went with a different tour operator (who was not cheaper but I liked many things about her including she would price each camp for me, unlike the first guy). I called, emailed and faxed to get our bookings released and nothing happened even though his collegue assured me it would get done. This went on for maybe two weeks while my new operator was having a hard time with the camps with me having a double-booking. I finally faxed the president but even with that did not get any cooperation for another week - 10 days. That's when I felt this was not just a rogue agent but the company itself was not one to deal with.

I won't mention the name but I was disappointed to see that one of the countries, I think Namibia, has them listed as one of 4 or 5 companies they recommend. Now that I know more, this is the last kind of company I'd want to book Africa with. They are large, based in the states, they function as a travel agent rather than a tour operator (I believe I have that right). There are so many other great operators to deal with where you will get personalized service as well as good rates.

(Patty, look on the "airlines" section please)

Wanted to add that I worked out a different itinerary with the second person although a couple of the camps overlapped.

Clematis,
Thanks for sharing your experience. I replied to your post on the airlines forum but I wasn't clear about one of your questions.

Just FYI.

Ranger Safaris quoted firm prices for June, 2007.

How did their quote compare? Are all of you other quotes based on 2006 pricing?

Patty,

Sunny is checking to see if can hold the pricing for June, 2007.

Go2Africa was 2007 pricing.

Rangers pricing was at the high end of the scale for the companies we are considering, but competitive.

No one has really come close to Sunny Safaris.
