Last year before I went to Singita I splurged on a Sony DSC-F707 Cybershot Digital Camera, at the time the best digital camera I could find. There are better ones out there now but it served me well for the first trip so I will stick with it for another year or two.
A safari holiday to Southern Africa is so expensive in itself, that I highly recommend you go all out for the best camera you can find. The Sony proved very easy to use. I had never even owned a camera before I bought that one and really didn't spend more than a couple minutes reading the instructions.

Great photos!
I leave 2 weeks from today for South Africa. I hope I get as many photo opportunities as you did. I really like the one of the charging elephant. How much zoom do you have - how close were you to the animals?

I just received my first shipment of photos from www.ofoto.com and I am VERY impressed with ofoto.com (and with my pictures, as well!).
Out of about 50 pictures (ranging from 20"x30" all the way down to 5x7, I was only unsatisfied with a single photographs quality.
The order cost me about $375 and I am sure that it would have cost me over $850 plus a lot more time had I taken these photos to my regular place.
The "matted" issue didn't turn out to be an issue at all. I think that I just got a real poor job out of Kinko's last year when I last got matted photos. The matted photos look great.

I didn't think you'd be disappointed with the matt finish - I nearly always get my stuff printed in matt - I think it looks so much better...
Thanks for the feedback on ofoto's print services though - I've never used them because postage issues means it's more logical for me to use UK based companies.

Rocco, I have a question about photo size. I've ordered photos from www.imagestation.com, but only the 4x6 size because it was recommended. How large do you think it's safe to go and still have good clarity if the initial picture is good? Thanks... Nancy

From a document included in my Ofoto order these are the recommended minimum pixel resolutions for particular print sizes:
4x6 = 640x480
5x7 = 1024x768
Wallet = 320x240
8x10 = 1536x1024
16x20 = 1600 x 1200
20x30 = 1600 x 1200
If you don't know the pixel resolution I would suggest you start with a single photo at a larger size to see how it turns out and just experiment.
