Revised Itinerary for Israel--Input Needed

Since we are flying into Israel on a Friday evening, we decided to taxi from the airport to Jerusalem and start our trip there. Here is a tentative plan:

Friday/Sat Evenings - Jerusalem (possibly Sunday as well)

From that point, we are looking at staying in Safed, Akko, Haifa or Nazareth to visit Galilee sites.. Probably splitting the nights between one or two and then heading to Tel Aviv area for 1 evening. Driving from Tel Aviv to cross the border to Aquaba into Jordan.

My husband would like to stay on the water at some point (it will be hot being September). would you suggest Haifa or Akko as the better waterfront area. Also, we heard Nazareth is a "happening" city for dining/nightlife and we would like to see the biblical sites. Is it worth a stay or would we be happier with Safed or Rosh Pina as a base. And should we stay in Tel Aviv or is there something south that would be of interest?

Thanks again for your help....if you have a favorite restaurant or hotel in any of these areas, we would also like that input.

It would be helpful to know exactly how many days you are planning to be in Israel.

I would leave Jerusalem to the end of your visit, rather than starting there when the only time you are allocating to this amazing city is Friday and Saturday, when you will run into limited hours because of the Sabbath and no public transportation.

Additionally, you note you are coming in Sept.- are you aware that Sept 24 is the eve of the Jewish New Year and that Sept 25 and 26 are Rosh HaShana - if you will be here then you will have additional days with no public transportation, different opening hours and much higher prices for hotels, not to mention much larger crowds.

We are arriving Sept. 19th, looking at 6 days in Israel and have planned the trip so that we are in Jordan during the high holidays. I work for a Jewish firm so am aware of the conflicts we could encounter. Since I am not Jewish, I presume some of the Christian sites are available for us to tour and we are hoping to stay near the old city. Question is should we plan to stay Fri/Sat or Fri/Sat/Sunday to see all the sites without giving up too many days in Galilee or elsewhere. Some areas that we are hoping to explore are Nazareth, Akko, Haifa, Masada, Red Sea...probably doing the Dead Sea on the Jordan side. If our last night is September 24th in Tel Aviv, will that work for lodging and dining?

Sept 25 is Rosh Hashana. How and where are you planning to enter Jordan ? Car rental offices will be closed on the holiday (except at the airport) so where will you return your car ?

Six days including Jordan? That is squeezing things a little since you want to tour Galilee then mention Nazareth and Masada and even Red Sea. Jerusalem itself deserves at least two days. But what is this about a stay on the water like at Haifa? Hmmm.
