Protection against mosquitos and other bugs?

We are trying to take every precaution for our safari trip to Botswana. We are covering with "deet", taking malarone, wearing long pants and long sleeves. What kind of protection is inside the tent-room at the Wilderness camps. Do they have mosquito netting? Do they spray with a permetherin product or should we bring our own?

Deet is very strong and some consider it dangerous so I would go easy on that unless the bugs are very bad.
And it is not recommended for children, I have heard.

I went to a health food store and got one that came recommended by the clerk who used it a lot. Avon also has some good products.

Zinfanatic,

From memory, you are going to Selinda main camp? there isn't a chance for a mosquito or fly to get into a tent there...

Hari, We are going to Selinda, L.V. and Little Mombo- do you know of the conditions of the other two camps?

I'm normally bitten during the game drives or at sundowners. Never in the tent/lodge.

You should be fine ....... all camps in Botswana have the peaceful sleep spray. Just spray it on your clothes and the mosquitos won't get to you.

LV is fine even though an island camp. There was mosquito netting in Bots but not in Zim.
Some camps had the coils burning and all had bug spray in the tents.

You can spray your clothing with permethrin prior to your departure. I don't think it's supposed to be sprayed on your skin.

ShayTay, We have already sprayed our clothes! My hubby is thinking of bring a spray to spray in the room itself- not on ourselves!

I hope you have a good time, and do not worry about the bugs so much that you miss the beauty. I have also heard certain times of the year (colder months) less of an issue. Just an idea. Have fun!

Those camps have every imaginable spray, creams and coils ..... just save yourself the excess luggage!- that would be just my 2C
