Kavey: Mashatu's rates are right on their website
http://www.mashatu.com/rates.htm
If I recall Thit_Cho posted an outstanding trip report covering the how to's booking info for the Kgalagadi since a lot of people were interested in the logistics and none of us knew much about it. If you do the search and read his report you will be all set in that area.

The nicest camp, Kalahari Tent Camp, is Rand 690, going up to 735. You can get a lot of excellent info on Kgalagadi on the www.sanparks.org forum (Kgalagadi is in the arid parks forum).

Did you make any progress on this? We are looking to make a trip around christmas and the Kgalagadi options looks good. Apparently December-January isnt a bad time to visit either.
Has anyone visited Kgalagadi? Opinions?
THanks

I'm still working through all my options and am dealing with a couple of agencies via email but nothing remotely concrete enough to share, I'm afraid!
At the moment I'm leaning towards East Africa but I'm not even definite on that so... still dithering here!

Kavey - We're already going to Zambia for 2 weeks in July but were hoping to squeeze in another couple of weeks anytime between November-January on a not too expensive safari. Mobile camping is perhaps the best option. But given that its the wet season in southern Africa, it effectively rules out a number of locations.
thit_cho - Read your trip report to Kgalagadi and I am looking into it quite keenly. I believe the game viewing in reasonable at the time of the year, but the heat can be very opressive then.
Anyone have opinions on self-drive in Hluluwe-Umfolozi, Kruger at that time of the year?

I don't know how much difference there would be between early June (when we did a self drive in Hluluwe-Umfolozi) and July? I wouldn't imagine it would be huge assuming that July isn't rainy season...
We prefer sunny days but cold nights to hot, muggy days and nights that are just too much for us.
