Presently booked for Egypt in March-Morocco as a possible alternative?

Hi Fodorites,

I have invested almost a year in planning a private tour of Egypt for our family of three. It looks like we may have to consider an alternative, though I have not canceled anything yet. I do not know much about Morocco and if we do change plans, I have a very short time to arrange things as our departure is in the second week of March. Our flights will connect through Frankfurt . We have already been to Tunisia, Turkey, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and France-I just cannot think of anywhere else in the region. We are traveling with a 17 year old.

We would like a private tour-in Egypt we booked with Lady Egypt-is there a similar large agency in Morocco? Our trip was high end and I would prefer to keep that standard. We have 2.5 weeks so any suggestions for an itinerary would be greatly appreciated. Are there any travel resources for Morocco online that would be helpful?

Thanks everyone

http://www.kensingtontours.com/.../A...tlas-Mountains ·

www.atlasandsaharatours.com more moderate

www.visitmorocco.com good general info othe options

www.zicasso.com another great upscale value site.

www.affordabletours.com group tour options at discounts.

Might wait a bit though Egypt is very magical for me...

Sorry your plans have gone astray so close to departure. We have flights booked to Cairo later in the year, and are also looking at alternatives, including Morocco. I will follow this post with interest. Good luck!!

Have you considered Jordan? Or Israel? Both are great destinations.

If you are booked for mid to late March, you may want to wait another week or so to make a decision. A similar situation happened to us in 2001. We had spent a year planning a trip to India that was scheduled for early November. On September 11, I was staying at the World Trade Center Marriott hotel. The events that day turned the world upside down. After I finally got home a week later, we were ready to cancel everything, but decided to wait a bit to see what happened since we had a month to decide. Everyone was scared to travel anywhere in the world. And our other concern was that we were told that since there are more Muslims in India than in the entire middle east we might not be welcome - it might be a bad experience even if it was safe. Since we knew that the media always focuses on the worst possible situations, we decided to wait until we could make a reasonable decision. When we saw the situation more clearly, we decided to go ahead with our trip. Our trip was truly amazing. So many other tourists had cancelled, that all the major sights were completely uncrowded. The local people were so incredibly glad to see us and were welcoming us with open arms. We've been to Egypt and know that the Egyptians are kind and generous to tourists. If the unrest calms down soon, the tourists who go will have an amazing experience.

My reservation with Jordan or Israel would be you risk there being a flow on effect from Egypt (as some analysts suggest may happen). It would be a shame to change your plans and have them spoiled again.
