Porters at gorilla treks
Does anyone know what the current rate is for hiring a porter to carry your day pack on the gorilla trek? When we were last there (5yrs) there was a set rate and then you tipped on top of that. Does anyone know what the current base rate is? Thanks!

Jambo, Jules! Tripadvisor forums, with lot more "traffic "than here, will likely have more current answers. (You've probably already discovered that.)
The article below, from a travel agency, is about two yrs old, so i don't know if the $20 is still accurate. It describes the reasons for hiring the porters. At Bwindi, (stayed there two days, but was too late for gorilla trek permit) I met people who had each hired two porters,--even if they needed little help with their belongings--knowing what it meant to those porters to earn that money. Then I met someone who said she got so tired on the trek, she said she'd never have made it without the help of the porters pushing her along!

That is a good option giving to the locals the last time i did this year we gave each 25$ then a tip on top. You will get them at the UWA briefing point and you will still negotiate with them. They are mostly happy to recieve the offer given depending on the lagage size. Their was a mother who fail to make up to the trekking point but these potters helped her carried her up to the point she saw the Gorillas and carried her back up to where the van could meet us.
