Maria, Please post back and let me know what you think of these books. I wish I could make Scroggins book required reading, it is so good.
By the way, one more amazing book that goes in a different direction:
Phillip Gourevitch, We Wish to Inform You That Tomorrow We Will Be Killed With Our Families-- about the Rwanda massacres, and the foreign aid mess following it. A simply amazing book. Incandescent, beautiful prose allows you to read through this account of a horrifying period. Simply incredible.

Exciting news on development of a device from the heart of Texas - Austin - to help in the diagnosis of AIDS. Great minds at work. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation believes in it. Happy to see money going to such a worthy cause. It's a darn good start anyway.
