Yes, I think it must have been a bad batch of memory cards. I can't remember the brand, but it wasn't any of the major ones. The camera store pushed them as being good for Canon cameras...live and learn!

Four of us just returned from 2 weeks in Tz and Kenya. Together we took about 40 G(about 9000 files) of pictures. Being a "little" anal, we had two wolverines, a 40g and 60g, plus about 12g of cards. Who ever said it, the speed of download is no problem. We had plenty of time to do all the downloads each night, plus recharging of batteries and never missed a cocktail hour. The prices quoted here for the Wolverines are lower than I found, but that's great. One value I found was that I could use my SD extreme III most of the time rather than the slower Ultra II SD's.
Let me add another idea. We took a number of 2 gallon zip lock bags and when traveling on the very dusty and bumpy roads sealed the 5 cameras from the dust. Never had a problem other than dusty lens which we cleaned often.
It's a great trip, take all the shots you can and enjoy enjoy!!

Probably my fault, I mentioned 120 GB for $99 but that was a clear-out sale at Fry's Electronics for an older, slower model that's being replaced. Checking the net I see B&H has 120 GB Woolies for $140 with USB and Firewire interfaces, which should be faster.

I got the 40gb for $90 something ea. by contacting Wolverine directly. Retailers were no longer carrying them because they were moving the bigger units, but I would never need more than 40gb as I have 2 bigger external hard drives at home and probably won't be going on a month long photo safari again for a long time. These are strictly for backing up cards while vacationing, so 40gb each is plenty for me. If you are trying to save some money I would check the Wolverine website and call the company and see what they have that they are trying to get rid of to make way for newer stuff.

Check out a product called the hyperdrive made specially for this purpose. Read CF cards and also verifes data and has a screen to view etc....
