Petra Wadi Rum
I am a middle aged lady planning to go to Petra and Wadi Ram from Modiin in Israel in November. Can anyone recommend a good group tour to these places.Which is better --to leave from Tel Aviv or Jerusalem or preferably from Modiin? I don't particularly want to go to Eilat.

Almost all of the tours to Petra go via Eilat. Crossing at the Allenby Bridge requires that you get a Jordanian visa in advance.
Since you are in Modi'in, the simplest and quickest way to get to Eilat is to fly from Ben-Gurion airport. Look at the "Israir" and "Arkia" websites for schedules. Otherwise you will have to go to Jerusalem or Tel-Aviv to get a bus to Eilat - a 5 hr ride. Look at the "Egged" website for information.
The tour company that receives the most recommendations on the travel forums is "Desert Eco".

We did one last year from Jerusalem that did not go to Eliat. We first went to Jerash which was fantastic, two nights in a bedouin camp and the last day Wadi Rum. I booked with Abraham tours, and there were only 9 in our group all around the 45-65 age range
