Passport Dilema
HI All,
I need to get visas for Rwanda and Kenya trip for Aug 07 but to do so I need to send in my passport, right? I am wondering how to do this as I will need it to trave to Cananda in July. I have been told not to send for the visas until 2 months before my trip so that leaves me without a passport. any ideas? Rhoda

Hi 13moons, why not make life VERY simple and just get your visa when you arrive in Rwanda - that's what we did last year and bar them telling us we 'could have' gotten it before arrival, there was no issue. We are from Europe though so it might be different for the US (but I doubt it) so you might want to double check.

You can get your Kenya visa upon entry into the country and depending on wha country you are from (USA for one), you don't need a visa for Rwanda according to the Rwandan Embassy - http://www.rwandaembassy.org/

I got my visa in Kenya upon arrival - no problem at all. I don't remember getting one in Rwanda.
I went Kenya (1 night)/Rwanda (couple of nights)/Kenya (couple of weeks) and had to pay a transit fee (or something) to spend the first night in Kenya before catching the flight to Rwanda. I bought the $50 Visa when I returned from Rwanda into Kenya. So it did cost more than $50US.
Please do make sure you have $50US cash to pay for it. There was a guy trying to get someone to convert his foreign currency into US dollars and he was there quite awhile before someone helped him.

If traveling under a US passport, you don't need a visa for Rwanda. And, for Kenya, you can get on arrival.
Download the visa application, have it completed and along with USD$50, obtain when you arrive Kenya. And, if as sundowner, have only an o/n in NBO before going to Rwanda, request a regular $50 visa to avoid the $20 for transit visa. This visa on arrival is good for 3 or 6 months.
