Owen and Mzee - what a sweet story! A must for animal lovers [and all others]

In December 2004, a frightened young hippo, separated from his family by a devastating tsunami, bonded with an Aldabra tortoise named Mzee. The 130 year-old tortoise accepted Owen as his own, and an inseparable bond was forged.

They reside in Haller Park sanctuary, Kenya.

We got a book on these two as a donation in our town library. What an amazing story!

They have their own website,
http://owenandmzee.com

Check it out - read their story and see their pictures. Great!

Thanks! I remember that story well and even received that book for a Christmas present a few years back.

Three years after the Tsunami, Owen is a very big guy. I read somewhere that he's no longer in the company of Mzee, for safety reasons, naturally. He's either been moved to another area of Haller Park or another nearby sanctuary/reserve.
