Our African Adventure

My DH and I just returned from our African Adventure. We started with 10 days in Cape Town. We rented a car and had a fabulous time exploring the area. We then flew to Johannesburg and started a trip arranged by Africa Travel Resource. Everything went very smoothly which was especially good considering how many border crossings we did. We went to South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Tanzania and Kenya. We stayed in the following lodges/camps:

South Africa- Arathusa/Sabi Sands
Zambia- Toka Leya/Livingstone
Zimbabwe- Victoria Falls Hotel
Botswana- Muchenje Lodge/Chobe
Tanzania- Serenra Ngorongoro and Olakira Mara Camp
Kenya- Offbeat Mara Camp

We found the photos on the ATR website to be pretty true to reality. We were very pleased with all of our accommodation choices. We joined in the lodge activities everywhere except Ngorongoro where we had our own driver/guide.

If you would like to know more about our trip, please visit www.garyandsusan.shutterfly.com Each country has its own tab at the top of the page. On each page is a “Taste Of ____” section that has the highlights of the trip. If you have more interest and time, there are more albums below that which have more detail, including photos of the lodges.

Thanks, I will check this out. I have considered Offbeat Mara in the past; chose Kicheche both times instead, but I am very interested in reading more about Offbeat.

Glad you had a great trip! ATR arranged your whole safari? I booked with them years ago and thought they were okay. Glad they came through for you.

I don't see any tabs for Tanzania or Kenya; did I miss them? Leely2,I stayed at both the Offbeat Meru and Offbeat Mara camps last year and loved 'em! In fact, I'm going back with a group next year. One of my friends who didn't think she would like Kenya enjoyed those two camps and areas so much, she's going back next year, too. We're adding a couple of days at Rekero down in the Reserve, so it should be a great safari!

Hi ShayTay, how are you? I remember that you went to Offbeat and liked it. I think I've asked you about Offbeat Meru in the past. Your 2014 trip sounds great!

sd, I don't see the Kenya and Tanzania tabs either.

I'm still working on Kenya and Tanzania. Just started Tanzania. We had over 8000 photos and it is taking a while to cut them down to a reasonable number. There are still so many even after the second cut!

Offbeat Mara is in the process of replacing their tents. If you go, ask for a new one. The older ones could use some maintenance. If you have something that needs improvement, ask the managers. It will be fixed promptly. The camp was near the top of the list for the most fun. The managers are really young and very personable. We thought the food was at the top of the list as well.
