Kudos to you Fabio for exposing your son (and hopefully your daughter soon) to the world.
What a great parent to take the time to spend on safari with their children. I am always encouraging those I meet to take the kids somewhere other than Disney or the beach - to let them see the world at a young age - to see our valuable assets that could be gone in a blink.
The future will depend on our children and the impact of these trips will be most positive.
I say this as I spent many years taking my own daughter on many trips that others thought, too dangerous, too "different", and yet she remembered each one in total detail, and would tell me when she grew up she was going "back" to do something significant. Unfortunately she is not with us in this world, but it gives me great pleasure and solace to remember our trips around the world together.
Keep it up! I like the "PROJECT" It will have an everlasting effect on your children.

I am really touched by your words about your daughter. She was very lucky having that opportunity you offered her to travel. Yes, she still lives in you and she had great experiences with you, much more than many others who, although having the possibility, prefer to spend their money differently, not even knowing the next close town in their entire lives.
We also have been surrounded by friends and relatives who often discouraged us to leave for our long trips, like those two to Brasil and New Zealand when my wife was pregnant (too dangerous !! as you also said), or to Australia when our daughter was only 5 months old, or paddling on a river in the Amazon forest all four of us some years ago etc....
We never stopped travelling and I really hope our children will do the same with their families, trying to contribuite making this world a little bit more open minded. Thanks very much for your comments !

Travellng the world (when and if possible ) is an extraordinary gift to give to one's children; as seeing the many wonders outside the "safety of their world" ; the people, the places, and the experiences is the most incredible learning experience. And from what I see, they truly appreciate it.
To hear a "trip report" out of the mouths of babes is wonderous, as their perceptions and interactions are much more innocent than ours and therefore, so much more accepting of different cultures. I guess they really teach us!
I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your report with your son, and
I am looking foward to many more,

Fabio, I missed this the first time around. I very much enjoyed hearing about your trip and seeing your photos. Great job!
It sounds like you enjoyed your camping experience. I have also been camping but in Botswana. The company I used carries all of the tents and supplies including water and tents for toilets and showers so the shower water was always warm. I don't envy your cold showers
Like Leely, I enjoyed how you compared the flat plains in the Serengeti to the Masai Mara. And you are right. There is more than enough room to love them both.

Fabio, there are at least 3 mobile safari companies that people on fodors have used and liked. I've personally used GameTrails once (http://www.gametrailsbotswana.com/) and Maun Rest Camp, Simon and Joyce Paul, twice. I was looking to see if Simon and Joyce have a website and ran across this trip report that is in Italian (I think) and it has their email address in the paragraph under the flag. http://www.markos.it/quaderni/Botswana.htm
Others here have used Masson, http://massonsafaris.com/index.htm. If and when I go to Botswana again I will probably try to use Massons.

What photo equipment did you take and which lenses did you find you used the most frequently?
I have read that sometimes the wildlife in Tanzania is further away from the road so a longer lens is required but I wonder if that was your experience?

I used just an automatic Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18, which has a 18x optical zoom. That was 2 years ago already. Now I think it is possible to find a 24x optical zoom without jumping into the reflex world with different lenses.
Yes, it is not allowed to drive offroad in Serengeti and Masai Mara so it may happens that wildlife is in the distance sometimes but some other times it was very close to our road. It is also a matter of luck and driver/guide experience and knowledge.
