Mala Mala Jeep Transfer

Hi all,

Finally getting an opportunity to make another visit to Mala Mala this year. Can't wait. We will be taking the jeep transfer from Nelspruit (Krueger Airport) to Mala Mala. Has anyone taken the transfer? Wondering if we will be able to see any wildlife along the way?

Hope all is well with everyone. We will also be stopping in to Maputo, Mozambique and Durban, South Africa and two ports in Namibia: Luderitz and Walvs Bay Are there any suggestions for a day trip or things to see in these areas that might be interesting?

Thanks,
joan

The transfer takes 2.5 hours thereabouts. The last 30 minutes or so are inside the Sabi Sands (after entering Shaw's gate). At any moment after this you can see animals. I have seen leopard and rhino on the road to malamala on previous visits.

Hi Tom,

$258 one way for two persons and $251 the other way (probably due to not paying an entrance fee somewhere) for two persons. We are flying from Cape Town to Neispruit and then taking the jeep transfer to Mala Mala.

Thanks G-J.
Not sure, but, probably could fly charter Nelspruit to MM air strip for close to that. If it matters, perhaps to catch the PM game drive?? (Don't get to MM late only for a $1,200 dinner and bed). Also, FWIW, flight on SAA from JNB to Hoedspruit is (or used to be, haven't checked in two years) around $120 person. This maybe not good for you but as reference perhaps for someone else.

regards - tom

There was still time to do the afternoon game drive even with the 2 hour drive from Nelspruit to Mala Mala. It was an interesting drive, able to see some of the surrounding areas and agriculture that is abundant between the towns and Mala Mala. On the way along the road to the reserve we even saw the wild dogs, giraffes, zebras, and a few other animals.

The game drives at Mala Mala were as always outstanding. A huge variety of multiple animals. Saw 7 hippos outside the water, about 100 elephants in a herd outside Rattray's gates, 7 rhinos, as well as many multiples during the week trip between Christmas eve and New Years. The food at the lodges has also improved and the staff was excellent as always.

Good to know the food has improved...implies that it was not that great before, which I never wanted to say! Always felt that "taste" was subjective.

On that note what were the improvements, taste? presentation? quantity? menu/selection?
