The hostilities are occurring in South Ossetia, which I had planned to visit from Tbilisi, but I'll need to monitor the safety situtation when I'm there. Right now in Sheremetyvo (decent Aeroflot lounge) on way to Baku, so in Azerbaijan for a few days, before hopefully flying to Tbilisi.

Hi thit_cho:
Be safe. Your travels are very interesting and it gives me new places to study for sure. Please keep checking in when you have a chance especially with the news that you are traveling to hot spots, which is sad in some way, because your travels are cool as they stand. Whatever it takes...
Thanks,
Den

More in depth information to glean of course on ReliefWeb until we hear from the Foderite man on the scene or others upthread that seem to be in the know as well.

Well, Georgia (and South Ossetia) are off, at least for me on this trip. Azal (the Azerbaijan airline) canceled flights to Tbilisi, including my flight tomorrow. So, its a little tricky to continue to Armenia (Azerbaijan and Armenia don't get along either, so the border between the two is closed, and there are no flights). So, on Tuesday, I need to fly from Baku back to Moscow, and then on to Yerevan (about 10 hours of travel time for what could have been a 45 minute flight). But, it helps to be Platinum Elite on Delta -- they got me those two flights, on two days notice, in business class (only seats available) for 45,000 miles.
Looks like I'll make it to Atlanta, Georgia sooner than Tbilisi, Georgia.
Bright side is an extra day in Baku, which has many incredibly beautiful buildings.
