Leather Babouches (slippers)

I hope to travel to Morroco soon and am interested in purchasing babouches as Christmas gifts for family and friends. Can anyone recommend a souk where I can find quality, variety and price?

Thanks.

You will find them everywhere. Just bargain for quantity.

No problem to find them just about anywhere.
One word of caution though. The leather smells bad and that smell won't go away. Just wanted to warn you.
I love babouches myself, but always stayed away from, just like from other leather items like bags, etc.
Enjoy Morocco. It's an amazing country and the food is SO good.

Where in Morocco are you going? I bought leather babouches (in Marrakesh). They were very easy to find in lots of colors & styles. If you have time, look around before you buy. Some shops have more variety & more in stock. Depending on your bargaining skills, I think the prices are similar from shop to shop. If you buy all your shoes at one place, bargain for a discount on quantity. We bought 2 large "poufs" (leather pillows) & have had no residual odor problems. The tannery area in Fes is quite pungent, though!

We purchased 4 pair in Marrakesh in July 2000 for $40 ($10/pair). The original asking price was $40/pair. I agree that they are all over and you just need to find the color and size you want. Our salesman went off to get a larger size - we have big feet- so don't assume that what is shown is all they have.
