Hi Molly,
I was there in February 2001, so some time ago, and with unusally late rains that year, it was a four hour drive each way for any gameviewing what so ever! It was, for that year, in a dreadful position and more than a bit out of the way! On my return, I was told that that year was most unusual which may be true, but for the money paid I would not be returning anytime soon!
Kind regards,
Kaye

Don't give up on tented camps at Ndutu!
Olakira is very nice but by no means the only option! Your agent is probably not aware of the other camps.
I love Kusini but it is a gamble in January and February.
BTW, last week the biggest concentrations of wildebeest and zebra were north of Ndutu - that's a long drive from Kusini. At least 3 hours in the wet.

kusini is a lovely camp, but from year-to-year, can't guarantee where game will be and how far you'll have to go on game drives. As CHSL mentions, you might do better with one of the seasonal/mobile camps - Olakira, EMC, Savannah, etc. (depending on budget, maybe Nomad's or TUC) who even this year have moved to the Ndutu area as this is where game was/is to be found. No one can say now, a year-out what '08 will hold!

We stayed at Kusini camp at the end of Feb.2006.It had been a dry year up until about a week before we came and the migration and calving had been delayed and was somewhat atypical at that time. However, after an exciting drive through the mud all the way from Seronera since the dirt airstrip at Kusini was closed by the recent rains,we made it to Kusini.Believe me Kusini did not disappoint! We had the entire area to ourselves for two days of sunny weather, following prides of lions next to the masses of wildebeast with their newborn calves -sheer heaven! The camp is very nice in a cluster of Kopjes. As others have stated,no guarantees of the migration, but for that year,we hit it right. As a previuos poster stated, perhaps tented camps closer to Ndutu would be more reliable for the migration, but who knows???
