Thank you shouldbewriting!
In Nairobi now. The flight was 12 hours 40 minutes and flew by. I think not connecting makes a big difference. Service was excellent, always a smile and a gentle manner. The food was actually good, even my “vegan Hindu” special meal. I can’t complain especially for the price, and I was game driving in Nairobi National Park within 1/2 hour of leaving the airport!

Amy, good to hear that you had a pleasant experience with Kenyan. The big plus is the amount of time saved, arriving ahead and refreshed and ready for the safari. Invariably it would require a day to recoup. Not any more.
Good luck

I’m glad you had a good experience. Personally I would use any carrier before air Kenya. They lost my luggage on way to Nairobi and I never would have got it back if not Air Canada looking into it and then telling Air Kenya where to find it. I went 6 days on Safari without a change of clothes. Their first class seats were very uncomfortable and the food made us sick. So no thanks

A point of clarification: Kenya Airways (KQ) and Air Kenya are two different airlines. Not sure which lost barblovestotravel's luggage, but given how small most Kenya Air planes are, I'm guessing it was KQ, not Kenya Air.
I've flown KQ several times, including business class, and always had a good or neutral experience. Flew United to Milan this past July and my luggage was missing for over three days. It happens.
I'm a West Coaster, so I'll have to look into how much more convenient a JFK-NBO flight is.
amyb: safari njema!

Yes Leely2 you are correct it was KQ. My biggest beef was that they had made no attempt to find it. Also the file number they gave me said it was invalid when you attempted to put it in their tracking system. They never responded to any emails and they have offered me $100 in compensation. I filled out numerous forms had to send copies of ticket , bag tag, boarding pass, their claim sheet and so far 2 months later still no money. Why am I not surprised.
we flew Air Kenya 4 times while in Africa and they were great. Although they were always early so make sure you are at the airstrip early.

I'm just back and have flown both ways on KQ. I was pleasantly surprised how good it was, especially for a flight that long. My only other flight of this length was on United to/from China, which was comparable, but I felt the service/friendliness of the crew was better on KQ. The bonus of it all was the price. I'd definitely fly them again. The only thing I didn't like was connecting in JFK (from Boston) but if you're in the NYC area, it's a no brainer, IMO. But I got 7 hours of sleep going over and 10 coming back, so it was a far more refreshing flight than any of the times I've connected in Europe.

Thanks for your take AmyB on the Kenya Airways flights.
Ditto the above post!! Did you start planning your next trip during the homeward-bound flight? 🤔 When you get a chance, would love to read about this latest safari.
Was it all you’d hoped for, with the return to Offbrat, snd then Enaidura?
Best wishes for a fairly easy “bsck to reality.”
