Loisaba or Elsa's - a difficult choice, as both are wonderful, but markedly different; both are fantastic.
At Loisaba, they have the added Starbeds, at which you can sleep one of your two nights... actually sleeping under the stars, very private and you feel you have Africa all to yourselves. Activities here are also quite varied, depending on what you wish to do and when - game drives, bush walks, camel safaris, bike riding, fishing, Loisaba Samburu village visit (that is most welcoming and not touristy), outstanding food, beautiful pool, spa and the views are practically 360-degrees, wonderful hosts. Game drives are different, in that you don't find the wealth of game as you would in the Mara or Samburu, widely dispersed, but they have found painted dogs in the area.
Elsa's, well, is also very special, with beautiful accommodations, game drives in a very diverse environments; likewise, game is dispersed but you will find more species here, including Rhino, than at Loisaba. Also, wonderful hosts, outstanding meals, pool, Elsa's grave nearby. Many who visit for 2/days wish they had a 3rd.
There are scheduled flights to Meru for Elsa's. For Loisaba, it's a scheduled flight to Nanyuki, then a private charter to Loisaba (this adds to your budget).
Toss a coin. You won't go wrong with either. When do you plan to visit?

I've been to all three and it's a difficult choice because each lodge is very different from each other. I suggest minimum 3 nights at all these lodges to get the feel for what they offer. Sandi pretty well described Loisaba and Elsas. I agree with her findings.
Did you see Lion King? The setting was inspired by Pride Rock, which you will find at Borana. There is also a high altitude rose and lily farm, a tannery, a cattle ranch and an organic essential oil distillery there that you can visit. They have camels to take you to breakfast or sundowners, a hide overlooking a private lake/waterhole, horseback safaris, walking and mountain biking safaris and views to die for. What I like the most is that the owners live on the property full time. They care about you. I couldn't make the choice for you, so good luck and tell us what you decided to do and why.

Finishing up this October 2007 itinerary and I am driving my agent crazy. Our final three nights, depending on availabiity of course, could either be at Loisabe, Elsa's, Borana, or now she has brought up Ol Donya Waus.
You have been so kind with your previous comments. What do you think about these choices for October?
Prior to this we will be in the Mara @ LG, Rwanda, Tanzania Sabora Tented Camp. We thought we were going to Ngunkwe but there seems to be a problem with dates/flights.

Sorry about the spelling mess I was typing too fast before leaving this morning. Riding does not have to be a factor. The starbeds at Loisaba are pretty enticing. Sounds like the others are great too. Waiting to hear about availability
