I would recommend the City Lodge OR Tambo which is attached to the airport and accessed via the parking garage. No shuttle needed. Clean, no frills, includes breakfast. Perfect for one night stay.

We stay at the Southern Sun - a quick shuttle away and good deals if you sign up for their email specials. The bar is open late if you need food after the restaurant closes. I'm pretty sure the (delicious, huge, fresh) breakfast buffet is included. There is also the Sun Intercontinental (did I get that wrong again?) across the street from arrivals. Nice, expensive. We tried to stay at City Lodge last time, but it was booked solid. Book ahead .

We stayed here twice, one night each time. Dinner was very good and great price and the included breakfast was excellent.

They held our luggage for modest price between stays and let us stay after check out till our flight left in the evening.

Dove's Nest. No frills small establishment ( a 2 star guest house) pretty modest rooms,decent food, free airport transfers and 5 mins drive.

Lots of guesthouses in Kempton Park.The Gautrain Rhodesfield Station is close by, convienent if you need to get to downtown Jozi.
