FYI-Strike at Jo'burg A/p
All incoming and outgoing domestic flights and outgoing international flights will be disrupted. Incoming international flights will not be interupted. The strike is suppose to be happening on various days. So might be good idea to recheck those connecting flights and make a plan.

I haven't checked this morning's newspapers yet, but I heard a lengthy radio report before I left home. The planned strike at 4pm yesterday didn't start, supposedly not because it was just a threat but because SAA management made some overtures.
SAA and the Unions are meeting today. I think I heard a Union official say that if the talks were unsuccssful, they would give 12 hours warning before the start of a strike. (That's probably a statutory requirement.) That could mean a late night start, or more likely tomorrow.
SAA claims to have "contingency plans" to keep disruptions to the minimum. But that remains to be seen. I think the plans mainly or wholly comprise Management rolling up its sleeves. They also talk about finding alternative carriers for passengers. But as a Travel Agency spokesman said, that will place a huge strain on overall availability.

7h00 GMT Friday:
It started this morning. Pretty chaotic at the airports as they try and find alternative carriers for passengers. By the sound of it, all early-morning domestic flights were cancelled.

Sory, on reflection I realise that I should have said that "some" flights have been cancelled. I assumed that it was all flights but that isn't substantiated. And if it is not all, then I haven't seen or heard what percentage. But it does seem clear that it has been a major disruption.

I read this on another site. I hope none of "us" are affected by this.
