Is viagra legal in egypt?

A friend of mine says his guidebook (published by another company) lists viagra as an item that tourists cannot bring into the country. Before it was legalized I used to have people ask me to get it for them, which I never did. It never would have crossed my mind that a prescribed drug couldn't be brought into any country. Anybody know if this is correct?

That's very strange, I saw it for sale in pharmacies in Egypt. That was in 2007, I don't know if anything has changed since then.

It's available at most all Pharmacies now....as is much else. Most things you don't need a prescription for either.

Thanks, I'll let him know it's safe to take it with him. Must have been an old book.

I had heard that rumour as well. So rather than risk having it all conficated, I swallowed about 20 pills as our plane landed.

Talk about a great pyramid.

If that was my partner I'd tell him to leave the viagra at home. In egypt it will be too hot for hanky panky and I am sure I will be too tired after a day of sightseeing to want to partake in hours of viagra induced shennanigans!

Tom... no matter who was "dishing out the goods"... I think I'd be too tired after a hot day in Egypt!

What I want to know is why waste the expensive stuff you bought in the states - surely Health Insurance isn't paying for it there, is it? Buy it at probably a fraction of the price here and don't worry about bringing it with you.

Contrary to apparent assumptions, when I said I was asking for a friend, I meant I was asking for a friend.

I have been told by people here who use it that if you buy in quantity you can get it pretty cheap - a dollar or two a pill from Canada. I've never tried it, but I do appreciate the responses and I'm certain he does too. I guess he wants to be able to rise to the occasion should circumstances demand it. Personally, I don't recommend that but he didn't ask my opinion on that subject.

I did ask, he said the guidebook he is using was published this year by F******s. Now my curiosity is aroused and I need to stop by barnes and noble to see this for myself.

Can't people just control themselves for the 1-2 weeks that they're away on vacation and leave the viagra at home? LOL

Cheap Viagra might explain why Egyptian men were always so "glad to see me." I haven't received so much attention in years.

I really must go back.

Here is the page from that guidebook, I'll copy and paste the excerpt. This is found in the section entitled "Customs -- What You Can Bring into Egypt."

<i>Prohibited items include birds (live, stuffed, or frozen), Viagra, antiques, narcotics, cotton, and "items offensive to Islam."</i>

http://www.frommers.com/destinations...398020157.html

Regarding Viagra, I believe Mr. Frommer got it wrong this time.

Casual Cairo, why would cotton be prohibited? Or did Frommer miss the mark on that one too?

I would imagine they're talking about the cotton used to stuff the birds.

Hmmm, I don't know how stiff the penalties are, but we should all be glad for the *heads up* about Viagra.

He will not have his vicodin or morphine taken away if they are in prescription bottles, and he doesn't go through customs waving flags that he has them. Just keep them in your purse or where ever you like and walk through. Tourists here for one time only rarely get their bags checked. Customs has their hands full checking the Egyptians bags and those of us foreigners that live here that they know are bringing in stuff from abroad that maybe we should buy here instead. LOL
