Insurance Question
We just sent the final deposit to Roy's for our upcoming safari in June.
What insurance options do most people choose or look for in a travel protection policy? We are not interested in cancellation insurance and/or pre-exisiting conditions.
We will get Flying Doctors and MedJet, but what do most people get in addition to these?
We are covered by very good BC/BS and major medical in the states.
Thanks.

You can purchase a medical/medical evacuation policy only vs a Comprehensive policy that includes cancel/interruption, flight/baggage delay, baggage loss and the medical/evacuation.
Over the past few years I had only been buying medical/medical evacuation, until last year, when 10/days prior departure, I had a "leg problem." Of course, unless there was something seriously wrong, I would have had to cancel and then been out all that was paid. As it turned out, though I was okay and got on the plane and went on safari, this left me with "rethink this next time."
For upcoming trip, I'm not so sure, I'm only going to go with med/med evac only. May just go for the whole enchalada.
You have to remember, even if you have no plans to cancel or pre-existing medical conditions, someone else in your family might, your taxi to airport maybe delayed by accident or traffic. And BC/BS will do you no good in Africa if you need medical/dental treatment. Anything can go wrong... and then where are you?
We all know insurance can be costly, and more than likely, never have to be used, but you have to weigh all the options. It's not just about saving money... none of us has a crystal ball for the unexpected. I sure didn't.

I just got done reading this article.
I am a lifetime subscriber to ITN (International Travel News). This is a publication dedicated to worldwide travel, excluding the US and Caribbean.
In the April, 2007 issue is an article on trip insurance. The article is about an insurance company that is under investigation and also mentions www.insuremytrip.com. You can probably read the article on line at their website. They mention that www.insuremytrip.com is a travel insurance broker and makes money from each transaction, which is how most companies operate.....
But, they also mention a company at www.statravel.com and the insurance that is offered on this travel website. They are not recommending this insurance, but go on to say that it is a "well established and reputable company".
We think we are going to book our insurance with them (only from the outstanding articles and context of ITN). Take a look at what is offered and let me know what you think.
Thanks.
