Sorry, posted too quick ...
To answer your question, I'm afraid we've knocked Namibia on the head... at least until we can go back to the Malarial zones again

Spam is the official state meat of Hawaii. More Spam is consumed here than the rest of the United States, COMBINED. It now comes in Hot & Spicy, Garlic, Honey, Cheese and a convenient Spam Spread.
No, I don't eat it!

"Tom,can you tell me, is the Canon S2 a 'pocketable' camera?? Could do with a 'little' one for everyday use and it might just fit the bill."
No, much too large. Go to Amazon dott com and then search for S2, has a good picture. It is, however, much much smaller than a DSLR, fits fine in a large purse or bag.
LyndiaS - You must have a way to download from camera card to backup, you've got that covered, I'm sure. 86 images per card likely means you will need 4 cards I'd guess. (I would). That's not too hard since card prices are way way down, 2G cards around $40 or less, depending.
regards - tom
ps - I'll have the spam, spam, spam, eggs, spam and coffee special please.

Ah, Dennis, yes, I too will stick to the hulihuli (sorry thought it was two words with a hyphen!) chicken, no spam for me! Jim makes his own sauce actually & does a darn fine job of it on the BBQ here! We became quite addicted to it when found ourselves visiting your lovely state every second year in the 90's!

Lynda
At the moment May 14th is free so I’ve put the GTG into my diary. The only proviso to that is that, as you know, I’m self-employed, and should I get an offer of work that I absolutely am unable to shift to another date and which stops me from getting into town to meet you in good time that evening, I’d have to take it. But that doesn’t happen too often with dates I’ve blocked out of my calendar (occasionally I do consider it when a client has an urgent need for a particular date). Plus most of the work I accept is in or near London anyway which wouldn’t preclude us meeting afterwards anyway…

The Heathrow Express train takes you to Paddington which, I must confess, is not a favourite area of mine for restaurants. It’s a 15 minute trip. Would you be OK to hop on the tube to get to somewhere else from there? Normally you could get the tube into central London using the Picadilly line but as you rightly mentioned the Terminal 4 station isn’t operational at the moment. If we keep your travel time down to 30-45 minutes would that be OK? Anyway, drop me an email and we’ll work out the details off-board!

And no, I don’t have the “Bigma”, as many people call that lens, but it has a great reputation and I’d certainly not turn it down should one land in my lap one day! I’ll look forward to Jim’s feedback on it after the trip!

Hi Kavey-
No problem on the client if you get an offer of work, we do understand, certainly! And, sure, no problem on the tube - I'd really like to 'ride the rails' can we find somewhere that would have us going into Paddington on the Express and then on the tube from there? Do the two connect really easily at Paddington?

I do have your email, Kavey, I will email you this weekend!

So, update on the passports as well here. I can tell you for sure, no one with a passport expiring this year in Canada can go on a 'sudden trip' that's for sure.

I spent all weekend gathering together all the reqquired documents, pictures, signatures, applying on line etc. Then, on Monday, took a deep breath and went to the downtown passport office as I work three blocks down from it. I arrived at 2 pm - looked at the line up and almost died! Snaked down three flights of steps & out the door! The commissionare there said 'no way' would I make it inside through this line by 4:30 as that is when the wickets closed. I was so diapointed!

But, this morning, I dropped Jim off at the Richmond passport office (Richmond is a suburb of Vancouver). The line up outside just to get in took THREE hours! Once he got in the building, he was given a priority ticket to see an agent as we had done it on line - it was about a 15 min wait only for him from there. Others that didn't fill theirs in on line had to wait 1 1/2 hrs more once they got inside. Unbelieveable. We are planning to line up at our MP's office to complain about this.

And the processing time? 5 weeks for those people that didn't fill it out on line - 3 weeks for us.
I just may have time for that TZ visa after all!

But, all in all - Africa is worth it to us!
