I'm going back to Africa (Tanzania this time)
After dreaming of going to Africa for 30 years, I finally went to Botwana and Zambia last June. I thought I would get Africa out of my system, but little did I know that it doesn't work that way! My husband was also bitten by the bug and we are going to Tanzania next March. We decided to book with Green Footprint.
Overnight Onsea House
l night Manyara (Kirurumu)
1 night Lake Eyasi (Kisima Ngeda)
2 nights Crater (Serena)
2 nights Ndutu Lodge
3 nights Olakira camp
3 nights Suyan Camp
Fly back to Arusha
We may add an extra night at the beginning or end. I can't wait for the months to pass!

Very nice itinerary, Raelond. You'll have to let us know how you like Onsea...I haven't seen too much about it on the forum, but we're staying there next July. Their website looks nice.
Would you add the extra night to accommodate Arusha National Park, or a cultural experience? Or would it be to just sit back and relax?
Now if only the next 9 or so months would sail by quickly, right?

Raelond,
You are my scout. You preceded me at Duba Plains by a couple of months. Now you'll precede me to the migration in Tanzania by several years. How about checking out Namibia for me too?
Can you tell me how you decided upon the Serengeti camps/lodges you chose and how you came up with the number of nights at each?
You are so right, "it doesn't work that way."
Thanks!

Lynn,
To answer your question about how I picked the camps, I did a lot of reading on the various camps and the best time to visit these camps. I am not a big fan of lodges, but there isn't much choice for the crater and even though Ndutu is a lodge, it is not too large and I read very good things about it. I thought visiting Lake Eyasi would give us a true cultural experience. Green Footprint suggested Kirurumu as they know I prefer tented camps. I wanted to spend as much time at tented camps as I could afford, so that is why I am staying 3 nights at both Olakira and Suyan. We have now decided to add an extra night at the beginning and will visit Arusha National Park as KLM doesn't fly every day from Vancouver to Amsterdam in March. I don't know about Namibia, but we may be able to pull off another trip in 2010 to Egypt and Tanzania!

Raelond,
So Olakira and Suyan were less expensive than other tented camps?
Are you at Suyan in hopes of wild dogs or for general location?
Another day at the front end of your trip is a good idea, especially if you'll be flying in from winter-type weather areas. You never know about delays.

I think Olakira and Suyan is less expensive than Tanzania Under Canvas. I do hope to see wild dogs at Suyan and I understand the area the camp is in is very beautiful. Three days at each will give us time to really enjoy the area and relax.
