I'd like to learn about Tanzanite
Someone, in a thread about souvenirs, remarked: "Friends bought fabulous tanzanite at the Cultural Heritage Center, but you really need to know what you're doing as far as choosing--white cloth/paper, taking the stone outside to see it in daylight, etc."
I don't know what I'm doing, but would like to find out! Any advice, people?
Thanks,
Jess

I started with Google, but turned to Fodorites, because most everything I found on-line came from someone with something to sell! Does anyone happen to know if the Tanzanite Foundation and its "Mark of Quality" is legit, ot just another marketing ploy?
Thanks,
Jess

Hi Jess-
On your first day in Nairobi, Micato will take you to the Collectors Den in the morning before going to the giraffe center etc. At the Collectors Den, the man will give you a talk on the various grades of the tanzanite and some insight into what to look for to buy. You are under no obligation to buy there, but the talk is really useful for when you get out on the 'road' and see it in other stores.
