How exciting, Patrissim0--both your story (8.5 hours???omg!) and your upcoming trip. hah--i'll take the less Indiana-Jones type 40 minute trek experience any day!! 
Diani, and the areas near it, have beautiful white sand beaches. Mombasa , which you will likely go through on your way, is a fascinating city. That said, i was in the area many decades ago. Its beauty, from friends' reports., hasn't changed, but there are now loads of small hotels, so do your research on the best ones.

Live42day, yes, I love learning of the unexpected anywhere!
When friend showed pix and told me about Bulago Island, I was fascinated--didnt know anything about the Ssese Islands other than that Idi Amin lived on "his" nearby island, ironically called Paradise island, but filled with horrific stories.

Patrissimo, well you got me thinking about Ethiopia again. That was my original plan, Ethiopia and Uganda, but the drought there made me cancel that portion.
Upon some investigation I feel comfortable enough to plan going there again, so we are looking at adding 10 days to the beginning of our Africa trip.
Flying from Amsterdam to Addis, then to Entebbe , Kigili to Nairobi and back to Amsterdam is exactly the same price as not including Ethiopia.
So .....this trip is just getting longer and more expensive every week it seems.
We will just do the OMO Valley, no time or money to do the north too unfortunately but I feel the visit to see the people will be a nice compliment to the the safaris in the other countries.
So thank you for putting that back on my radar again.
I sure hope you will be doing a trip report.
