Sorry to be so negative but is this not filmed in a zoo in US. I had hoped it was filmed in the wild.

thanks wayne

the "best" part of the "movie" - the free fall - was censored??

also the lady says "Reticulated G. is found in southern Kenya"
should we refer her to some bibliography?

On our first safari Maasai Mara we saw such a birth in the wild. Filmed it, unfortunately with one of the early digital cameras so it's not the greatest quality.

I sort of feel the same way as sniktawk. The sight of just before the birth and the first moments of life were fantastic. But knowing that the amazing little creature would spend his/her life in captivity took away a lot of the pleasure for me.

It was amazing not only for us, but also with our driver. Fortunately we were on a private tour (highly recommended if only for this one reason) and were able to stay stationary and quite for about 4 hours of labor. We were also able to observe the quite interesting behavior of the rest of the giraffe herd and, interestingly, the consideration provided to the laboring mother by passers by (eland, zebra, etc.)

It was the first birth also for our veteran driver. After the birth we departed, to leave the happy family to whatever it is that they do. Returned about 3 hours later, and saw the baby on teetering legs getting to know his(her?) father and the others. [A bit anthropomorphic, yes, but understandable.]
