For those who have been going to the Mara for years...

I've always traveled in off-season (Nov/Dec or May/June) so difficult to say.
No doubt there are more people and vehicles these past few years, but you have to consider that 2001, 2002 & 2003 were terrible for tourism in both Kenya and Tanzania. Now that visitors are returning and more are realizing that Africa (in general) is a viable destination... yes, probably more vehicles and folks everywhere.
Recent threads and maps have shown more camps in both countries just to accommodate the demand. Guess, it's time for a moratorium in the Mara, but we need a few more options in the Serengeti.
Have spoken to friends who visited some 20/years ago and then more recently and they can confirm - there is less game now than there was then.
... and Starbucks has plans to open everywhere! Just, please stay out of the Mara!

Hi Lynn
I was in the Mara 2002 (Sep), 2003 (Apr) and 2005 (Jul). I can't say that I noticed any increase in traffic over that time. During my last trip I had a great guide who did not drive on the usual game circuits or use his radio very much. I was lucky enough to have great cheetah, lion and leopard sightings where we were the only vehicle present and could spend as long as we wanted to. For me this was a first in the Mara, but shows the value of a great guide. Earlier this year (Feb) I was in northern Tanzania and the traffic in the Crater and Central Serengeti was quite shocking compared to anything I've experienced in the Mara.

I agree with Gaurang about the Crater. Cars,cars,cars....some of them are more drivers than guides.....
Mara, i have been 2001 and 2002. I went in August 2001, and 02. Really, dont think there was too much difference both years. Bear in mind, the Governor's camp area didnt seem too crowded.....
