Very nice report ,i really enjoyed.
I am also happy to hear such good things about Little Kwara since i have booked 4 nights in November.

Your next trip sounds very exciting too.
Thanks again Rocco.

Hi Rocco

That obnoxious American woman with the Prado gear wouldn't be a relative of Spa Girl??!! ;-)
BTW Great reporting!

Cheers
Marc

Marc,
I think all of those types are related.

Rocco,
You win the award for most interesting companions on sundowners, singing and dancing with a machete. I realize I have been down right boring sundowner company by comparison. Not even any healthy flirtation!

Little Kwara was a great finale to Botswana.

I can't get the picture out of my mind of your new friend gleefully whirling about, machete in one hand, and a drink in the other. Don't forget to duck!

atravelynn and steeliejim,

Well, perhaps I bring out the best (or the worst!) in people.

Having good fellow companions on your vehicle is so key to a nice safari. I really enjoyed so many of my fellow vehicle mates on this safari from a very nice Colorado couple at Baines Camp, to a nice Belgian couple at Chiefs Camp to this couple at Little Kwara and later to a really nice honeymooning couple at Mateya.

Wow. Finally got time to tackle this bad boy (Botswana's not on the horizon for me). Great report, full of helpful details and a noticeable point of view. Next time try not to be so circumspect; don't hold so much back.

Best of luck in your new life--sounds like everything is going swimmingly and the next trip will be fantastic.

Leely,

Thanks for taking the time to read my report and my apologies for being so circumspect.

Yes, my "new life" is going amazingly well (and that is exactly what it is, a new life or at least a new lease on life).

I cannot wait to return to Africa in this new context and so happy with what I was able to fit in a shorter 15 night itinerary.

Will be kind of nice to go in late June/early July after suffering through mid/late November heat last time.

Rocco:
I meant (re romance) the next (June) safari--something about your statement--"For various reasons, most personal, this should be my best ever safari experience"--made me think that you would not be going solo.

In any event, good luck and thanks for the report.

Rocco,
I haven't been on the board for a while so I've only just read your report. Thanks for posting the details on the camps and sightings.

Glad to hear that things are going well for you. The center of Pasadena sounds like a wonderful place to move to!

Sorry for the delay...should be jumping back on the trip report this week...some of the best was saved for last at Sabi Sabi and Mateya.

Meanwhile, I am just rounding out a revised plan for my next safari leaving in just over 7 weeks time for hopefully this itinerary:

Tafika or Luangwa River Lodge, South Luangwa (2)
Kaingo, South Luangwa (2)
Mwamba, South Luangwa (1)
Chiawa, Lower Zambezi (2)
Old Mondoro, Lower Zambezi (2)
Victoria Falls Hotel, Victoria Falls (1)
Vundu, Mana Pools (3)
Somalisa, Hwange (4)

Looks like I am doing this safari solo as my rebound/transitional relationship did not work out, but that is a good thing, really. Meanwhile, while it is way too early to get my hopes up, I am in a good place now and there is someone else very special who has just entered my life.

So there is an empty bed in my room...who wants to go to Zambia and Zimbabwe?

Rocco, great itinerary and glad to see you back posting. You may want to start a new thread for second half (the South Africa portion) of your trip report -- this one is getting very long.

Hi Rocco,

Zambia itinerary sounds good.

Quick question on the D'oreale grande hotel at JNB. How did you find it compared to the JNB intercontinental?

Thanks,
Hari

Look who's back with a blockbuster itinerary to boot! You are too often guilty of touting the next trip before finishing up the report on the last. For shame.

Good luck on the safari and everything else.

Nice to hear you back Rocco. Was beginning to think you had fallen of the edge of the earth, or Zambia, or Pasadena!!!!

7 weeks!? It just dawned on me that I too am leaving in 7 weeks. Are you perhaps flying through London or ending up in South Africa? Maybe we'll cross paths. I've met Fodorites on the last 2 Africa trips and would like to go 3 for 3.
