Even though Africa is the best place for wildlife, I have to put TIGER on the top spot.
My encounter with a tiger in Chitwan, Nepal is still my best wildlife memorie, even though I been on around 10 safaris in Africa. But my favourites include
the usual suspects
Tiger
Lion
leopard
cheetah
wild dog
elephants

A tough one as others say - but I would have to say my favorite is elephants. I don't care what they are doing, just sitting there watching is definitely a privilege for me.
I have to sneak in a 2nd choice - all baby lions cubs.
Okay, here's another, but haven't seen them in the wild - meerkats - after seeing Meerkat Manor on Animal Planet.
And there's leopards, just for the sheer beauty of them.

I should add as well that "favourite" doesn't necessarily correspond to what I most want to see on a given game drive. There are many animals that I'd be extremely excited to see (such as a pangolin) and yet these do not make it only my favourites list...

Good question. I will play the politician and praise any and all wildlife that comes out to see me when I am on safari.
But I am especially happy to see
Cheetah
Wild Dog
Serval
Honey Badger
Aardwolf
Nyala--my new favorite antelope

Nyama,
Did you happen to see the ant lion in action. It may be sadistic, but I am not opposed to detouring an ant in the direction of an ant lion cylinder...amazing to watch the ant lion throw sand up at the ant to bring him deeper and deeper into his domain before finally catching and devouring the ant.

My favorite animal is the next one that appears in good light doing something interesting
My favorite African 'common' animal is probably the cheetah, for their elegance, dignity and aloofness.
Favorite uncommon animal is the honey badger. Anything that will bite the tires on a jeep or face a lion has my highest respect.
Favorite antelope is the kudu, with their long spiraling horns and shy nature.
Favorite bird is harder but bee-eaters and flamingos are near the top. But the bird I enjoy watching the most is the ground hornbill as he stalks around like an undertaker hammering with his pick-ax beak and almost always comes up with a bit to eat.
But my *real* favorite animal is the grizz ... I will spend three weeks with these guys this summer. http://www.pbase.com/hilton_photography/grizz
