Elephant Controversy with andBeyond -

Came across the below. What's going on?

http://www.eturbonews.com/13879/tanz...phant-controve

Missing tusks at one of their Serengeti camps? Did they walk away?

Anyone know anything?

from Safaritalk link Daily news article:

"Also missing is Kleins Camp's chief driver, a person identified by the single name of Mr Erasto who went missing as soon as the manager left the country on Thursday. Efforts to contact the 'And Beyond' management at the company's Arusha offices were still not successful by the time we went to press."

From andBeyond website/Profile Erasto:

I then moved to Klein's Camp in December 2007 where I am currently head ranger.

I like birding, walking and I'm currently doing a lion and leopard project.

Leopard and 3 cubs.

We had a wonderful sight of female leopard with it's three cubs near ivan crossing. They were playing on a broken ...

Obviously one of the suspects wrote a sighting report on 10 Jan 2010 or all is fake!

Disgusting - whatever comes out of it.

As you are a TA cannot get you some insider/definite info from andBeyond directly?

I would be really curious what's going on in TAZ and the company itself as they claim to be very much involved in conservation I would expect them to come forward with all details.

THX!

SV,

I'm inclined to believe the incident is more like what nyama says on that thread. that the whole thing is a setup by the neighbouring OBC.

... What made Klein's extraordinary was its operation in a private concession allowing night drives, off roading and bush meals and functions. These were all CANCELLED due to hunters in the area deeming it no longer safe... I was so upset, I had to leave and they made me pay my own airfare to return to another camp within the company...

There has been an update to that thread I posted...seems like a total fit up to me. A Commission arrives there to investigate abuses by OBC against the locals and there happens to be a dead (poached?) elephant next to the airstrip implicating the &Beyond staff? Why would two senior staff with years of service be involved with elephant poaching? And then leave evidence in such an obvious place?

THX Tanky!

You might be right and it's foul play.

Sad.

It certainly does seem a bit odd when &Beyond employees would have so much to lose and relatively little to gain. The timing is very convenient.
