Electricity

Can anyone tell me what plugs are used in most Botswana camps? Three prong round? Three prong rectangle? I have heard conflicting reports. How about South Africa - Cape Town hotels, Jo'berg hotels, wine country, Kruger, Garden Route? Are they all they same?

Everything we saw in South Africa (Joberg, Capetown, Garden Route and Kruger) was three pronged round. However, several of the lodges/hotels had adapters they provided with three pronged rectangular.

emckeeve,

The electricity supply in South Africa is 220-250 volts, 50 Hz.

To see, in pictorial form, what plugs we use in SA please go to:
www.ILoveCapeTown.com/saplugs/plugs.htm

The above should set you on the right track for my country however I am unsure as to what you need to do for Botswana.

Hope this helps.

Very proudly part of the wonderful nation of South Africa

We just returned from South Africa, Botswana and Zambia and my agent at Ultimate Africa Safaris told me adapters C and H are used throughout southern Africa. We were find with just these 2 adapters.

Gosh, C and H? Those are two that haven't been mentioned. Back to square 1. BTW, candles would be great. Life used to be so simple.

Okay I was looking at 2afrika's Botswana safari and it says that at Pom-Pom Tented Safari Camp there is no electricity. Has anyone been to this camp and if so how did you charge your camera equipment?

Thanks!!

For littlehouse.

We stayed at Pom Pom last September.
Lights in the tent are solar powered, but the main lounge area has generator power, and you can readily recharge batteries there.

I was planning on taking solar battery chargers, and giving them as gifts on leaving. Does anyone have any experience with these? There are a lot of different brands and kinds...
