Egypt Air seat assignments

Egypt Air seat assignments
We leave in four weeks and I was told by my TA that Egypt Air does not assign seats until check-in time. Has anyone had this experience? I called EA two times and they had no answers.

We used Egypt Air February 08 to fly from JFK to Cairo. They would only assign seats at check-in. It is on a "first come, first served" basis.
We got to the airport 3 hours early and had no problem getting the seats we wanted.
