East Africa trip finalized
After much “lurking” here on the site we finally decided on our trip to East Africa. I never realized how many options there were going to be. It feels good to finally have it planned. We are leaving in mid July 2008.

Drive to Mount Kenya, Sweetwaters Tented Camp, 1 night
Flight to Masai Mara, Governors Main Camp, 2 nights

Drive to Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, 1 night
Drive to Serengeti, Mbuzi Mawe Tented Camp, 1 night
Drive to northern Serengeti, Migration Camp, 2 nights
Fly to Kilimanjaro; connect to Nairobi, Norfolk Hotel, 1 night

It is a great feeling. I want to tell all the regulars that your posts have been terrifc and an invaluable aid. The photos, advice, tips and opinions are all highly appreciated. It is obvious that this is a passion for many of you. I hope to join the ranks. July seems far away but as Carly Simon said "anticipation..."

Arborist: Thanks. We are really looking forward to it. I guess we'll start looking at our packing list since we'll have a 15kg weight limit due to the internal flights. Given what I have read so far that doesn't really seem like that big of problem.

We originally looked into the big guys (Micato, A&K, Big Five, etc). I liked what I saw but the prices were quite high. After much reading on Fodors we tried some of the suggested African companies. We decided to use Good Earth. So far, we have been very pleased with them. Narry (I think one of the owners) has been very helpful. The total cost is significantly less and we are staying in better places. Of course, "the proof is in the pudding". I'll let you know after the trip how everything went.
