driving from Gabarone, Botswana to Madikwe Game Reserve

From what I read, Madikwe is nearer to Gabarone than to Johannesburg. Does anyone know if there would be any difficulty in driving from Gabarone to Madikwe and passing through South Africa border between the two countries.

We are coming from Botswana safari.

I have been at Jaci's 3 times and would go back in a heartbeat. But I have a love affair going with wild dogs. In any case, Jaci has told me that the border crossing can be difficult from Bots into SA. Depending on the mood, it can take a few minutes to a few hours. Personally, I have always driven from Joburg and find the drive enjoyable. I would email Jaci directly and see what she thinks.

kimwhits (or any others with experience), you say that you always drive from JNB to Madikwe. Is it an enjoyable drive? Also, once in Madikwe, are you able/allowed to self-drive around the area? If so, any suggestions?

It's a nice but not spectacular drive. About 3 hours if I remember. And no, you can't self drive. Basically you drive to the lodge and leave your car.
