My understanding is that Queen/ Queenie is Kike's mother. Kike herself was known as Princess before she became known as Kike via BCD.

Hari - Indeed, how many Fodorites have seen Jonathan Scott and Honey at one sighting???? AND have picture to prove it!!!!

But, your are probably correct, I do recall our Lil Gov guide expaining this when I asked about Kike. It's just again, without the cultural tradition of Royality it was too much for me to grasp.

Tom - is Honey the cheetah that hangs out around the Oloololo gate?? When we were in the Mara in July she had 5 cubs there and last I heard she had four, I'm sad to hear that she has lost another one . I'm dieing to see your photos - the cubs must be quite big now - and don't forget that trip report

Can't wait until Big Cat Diary shows again so I can catch up with Honey and cubs too!!

Is Honey the cheetah that hangs out around the Oloololo gate?? Honey is on the "other side" of the river. That is, the side not where Govenors camp is but the side of Lil Gov camp. If that helps any. She was on the other river side (Govenors) but crossed over (how?).

Yes she did have 5 cubs, lost one then another one. The last one I think to hyenas and this is why she crossed the river.
We did get some decent photos of her and the cubs. Found her on a mound with the cubs. She took off chasing and brought down a small gazelle or a gazelle fawn. We saw the chase but was maybe 200meters away. Went over (along with 11 other vehicles) and saw the family chow down on the gazelle. But the grass hid most of the chomping. As they finished the vultures moved in and Honey gave a couple of shows of chasing off the vultures but they were finished and slowly moved off. This was also our sighting of Jonathan Scott. Photos of all coming but will be a couple of weeks at least.

I must be feeling crabby to resurrect this.

Maybe this particular offense is even already here. But it happened to me on my last trip.

At a sighting I understand the need to swat bugs that fly into your face, but please refrain from raising your hand and lining up your shot on a fly that has landed somewhere in the vehicle and then suddenly WHAM. "Got 'em." or "Missed em, darn it." It doesn't much matter. The WHAM undoubtedly occurs at the moment another guest is snapping a photo which is a definite miss regardless of the fate of the fly.

A fuzzy puku shot I just reviewed reminded me of this.

Leave it to you Lynn to resurrect a two year old thread. For some reason, I don't picture you as particularly crabby. But, a fuzzy puku photo could do it.

Here's another thing NOT to do when others are trying to take photos (or see, for that matter). If you have a large, bright flash, please don't take photos one after another with the flash, especially when the flash is pointed in the direction of a vehicle mate. Believe your guide when he tells you that you'll get better photos without your flash when the guide is using the infrared light.

On the subject of cameras, please do not ask the guide what setting/fstop, etc to use on every shot. This happened last year, and I could only wish for a roll of duct tape. Fortunately, these nice folks were there just for a day, and I am sure their photos were terrific, thankfully they were not using a video camera with sound.

I also learned from these people to set the camera down and look around versus through the 2X2 viewfinder.

Great thread, I am surprised there were no mentions of bathroom use while on game drives. That thread is hilarious.
