Custom Tour Of Israel and Egypt?

Can someone recommend a tour company for a trip to Israel and Egypt? We're looking for a company that will work with us on catering an itinerary to our interests. I've been told Isram is worth a look.

Thanks,

Mike

Four of us are working with Keith at Acacia Travel in San Diego, CA; we have used him before when we went to Kenya and the trip was flawless, exactly met our needs and cost less than a tour. The email is [email protected] and the phone is 619-225-1233. He's GREAT and knows the turf!

Mike,

I just returned last week from a 14 day tour of Egypt and Greece. I highly recommend Travel In Style at 888-466-8242 or [email protected]. Ask for Omar. I was skeptical at first (well, actually, all the way until I was in Egypt) because the price was so amazing. We took the "Cleopatra's Dream" tour and were allowed to add on what we liked. Our hotels were nice (all with a balcony and great view), the food was actually good, and the guides were fabulous. They really paid attention to detail. The "shopping" stops were few and far between, we felt safe the entire time, and were not hasseled (I was traveling with one other woman). Don't hesitate to email with questions.

Best Wishes

I can recommend Misr Travel, the official Egyptian tour agency. We went on a 10-day private tour of Egypt with Misr in November 1999 and found them extremely reliable, with very competitive prices and outstanding guides. We chose our own hotels and what we wanted to see and do and they arranged everything. Their price was much lower than the same trip I could put together independently, and I found that our private tour was less expensive than many of the group offerings by other operators.
We stayed in upscale hotels, but I suspect that Misr can put together something in any price range.

I was particularly impressed with Eunice Roy, the manager in the New York office. She gave us the straight story on the merits of various hotels, which room locations are best, whether a Nile view is worth the extra money (we found that it usually isn't, except maybe in Aswan), and was very helpful in making decisions. This was in sharp contrast to the other tour operators I got estimates from. There was a universal "everything's wonderful - no problem" attitude that didn't enlighten me one bit.

We opted for NO NILE CRUISE. I know this is heresy, but we were happy with our decision. We had at least two days in each town - Cairo, Luxor and Aswan - with lots of time to explore on our own - very important as Egypt is even more fascinating away from the temples and monuments. We could stay in historic hotels, had our choice of places to have dinner and found that a two-hour felucca ride in Aswan satisfied our cruise-on-the-Nile needs.
We also did not have to get up at 4:00 or 5:00 a.m. to catch the very early flights that group tours seem to favor.

In view of Egypt Air's dismal on-time record, I would suggest that you call the airline or have your hotel desk call to find out if your flights are leaving on time. The tour managers tend to pick you up to take you to the airport at the originally scheduled flight time, which may have little relation to the actual departure time. Check these times for yourself. Do not rely on the tour people. You'll be a lot happier waiting in your hotel room or lobby or taking an extra walk in town than sitting for extra hours in an airport. I can't stress this point enough. Call Egypt Air as often as possible up to the time of your flight to learn of the latest delay - and bring pastries or some emergency food in case of even MORE delays once you are at the airport.

I will be happy to answer any questions you have about our trip. If you cannot
reach me at [email protected], try overcast44.

The phone number of the New York office of Misr Travel, which I just wrote about, is 212-332-2609. Ask for Eunice Roy, the manager.

Whoops. I gave Misr Travel's FAX number by mistake. Their New York
phone number is 212-332-2600.

Annette, I am going to Egypt soon. Can I use the tour operator you mentioned just to help me find a private tour guide to show us around? I already have
air and hotels booked.

Thanks

Frank

To Frank, who is looking for a private tour guide: I do not think that any tour operator will give you the name of the guides they use so that you can bypass their agency!

However, I do have the name of our splendid guide in Cairo. I will send it to you by e-mail.
