An old story but I remembered some talk about it and found this old question about an incident at Chitabe to which I have an answer from the current edition of Ngami Times (ngamitimes.com)
"Dawson Ramsden (32), facing a charge of murder, has been cleared of any wrong-doing by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions and the charges dropped against him."

Still there is a "bad taste" to the incident itself and how it was handled.
Either the shooter should not have shot at all based on lack of training and also evaluating the demage towards the risk of a life.
Or I would not like to be protected by the shooter on a walking safari - putting my life into the hands of a gentleman who can hardly meet a target.
As I don't no the people involved I try to see it objectively.

Truth is no one really knows what happened. So, it can only be rumours and innuendo. Some of us have met the guy who shot, while some others of us have met the guy who was shot.
Sorry that it came down to this -
