Cape Town guide for winelands

Does anyone have a recommendation for a guide for a day trip to the Winelands? We will be in Cape Town for 3 full days, and we want to take one of those days for a trip to the Winelands. Selwyn is busy when we are there unfortunately! (he sure has been great about helping me with other parts of our trip!!) We will be in Cape Town 16-18 July.

Our guide was from Trips and Trails (see link). Her name was LeyAnn Wahl, I believe. She's a delightful lady and knows Selwyn.

ShayTay: Did you use LeyAnn specifically for the Winelands tour? May I ask how much it cost for a day guide to the Winelands?

I contacted Trips and Trails through their website, but they responded that they don't know how to reach LeyAnn. Their website doesn't list anything at all about the Winelands, and since I mentioned that was the reason I was trying to contact LeyAnn, I am assuming that they don't help with Wineland tours. Anyone else have a suggestion?? Would prefer to have a guide for the day so that we can "concentrate" on the wine and scenery instead of focusing on driving and selecting our designated driver!

Interesting, since I thought she worked for them! I'll find her card and post her e-mail address (don't have it on me.)

trvlcrzy,

Leyann Wahl's email address is [email protected]

Her phone number is +27 21 671 2905 and her cell number is +28 83 227 5708.

Leyann is a great guide andI would recommend her highly. She unfortunately does not to my knowledge do tours of her own however she works for a quite a number of tour operators and will more than likely tell you to contact them, that is if she does not help you in her own capacity. The only problem is that I dont know if she will be available as she is very popular as a tourguide choice by local tour operators.

Other than Glenn Christie, whose name I passed on to you in private emails another excellent guide/operator in my opinion would be Pippa Wordie who can be contacted on [email protected]

Hope this helps.

Thank you for LeyAnn's info. Unfortunately she is not available. I have also contacted Glen Christie and this may work out.
May I ask how much you have paid or would expect to pay for a guide for the 4 of us for the day?

trvlcrzy,

Sorry to hear that LeyAnn is busy but then I am also happy for her to be as such. Hope the day with Glen works out as she is also a great guide.

Your question is a difficult one to answer as everyone has different rates. A bit of a thumnbsuck would be that you should bank on about $US100 per person per day which should include all entrances, vehicle and guiding expenses but will exclude meals. I want to stress that this a a bit of a thumbsuck average but it should remain a good guideline for you to work with.

Hope this helps and that you fnd someone like Glen to help you.

If you can't find a guide = ask at the concierge desk at the hotel and then get them to book you on a day trip - we did a self drive in and around Stellenbosch which was great = but the Holiday Inn in Cape Town where we had stayed previously had lots of brochures for day trips
