Camps Bay to Waterfront
I'm curious to ask someone who has been to Cape Town about staying in Camps Bay....
some of the websites I've been looking at say that it's only 10 mins from Camps Bay to the V&A Waterfront. A group of us are going to be there for World Cup and are wondering, with game traffic, how hard would it be to realistically get into town?

jenwo,
Camps Bay is between 10- 15 minutes away from the Waterfront by car. There are two raods one can take to do this journey one being known as "over the nek" and the other as the "beachfront road". Both journeys will take you the same time to complete.
When it comes to the World Cup simply forget about using the Beachfront Road as it is going to be heavy traffic all the way. During the WC period I believe the "over the nek" road would be better to do and will probably take you about 20 minutes.
In terms of driving into town itself there is no question about the fact that the "Over the nek" road is the best way to go and will probably take you about 10 minutes to complete.
Please understand that the above advice is based on what we know today but when it comes to the world cup things can change overnight so dont depend fully on the above advice at this stage even though I personally believe that matters will not change all that much.
Enjoy your planning for the WC in 2010.

Selwyn,
Thank you so much for your response. I was curious, is there any type of public transportation from Camps Bay to V&A? I read a posting from a few years ago that talked about the Blue Line or Red Line? Do those still exist?
I'd also like to ask your opinion--we have another rental home available in De Waterkant area during World Cup. Would you suggest staying in Camps Bay to be away from the craziness of the games (but have to deal with transportation) or stay right near the action and can walk during the day to V&A? What are your thoughts?

Hi Jenwo (& Selwyn),
I agree with Selwyn's response and if I may add my input, I would suggest staying at your rental home in De Waterkant, as it is so central to enverthing you may want to do without ever having to bother with transport, i.e. stay right near the action and walk to V&A, the stadium and central CT.
Hope this is of some help and have a great time from Ian.

Jenwo,
There is bus service that runs between Camps Bay and the Waterfront. I would not vouch for its levels of efficiency during the 2010 WC though.
Have to agree with Sunsetrocks's great advice and that is that staying at your apartment in De Waterkant will be your best bet. As a matter of fact many will envy you for having accommodation in this area during the 2010 WC as it is well located to walk to the soccer stadium, the Waterfront and the city centre.
Enjoy your planning for 2010.
