cairo and sharm tour guides
I have done a search on this forum, and cannot find any names of private guides that fodorites have used for cairo or sharm excursions. (tripadvisor has several names, but they seem fishy and as if the guides are recommending themselves.)
we are a family of four touring by ourselves over Xmas
any personal recommendations would be appreciated (with their contact info)

Casual_Cairo (on this forum) is a great guide for Cairo.
As HappyMom32 said - no need for a guide in Sharm. If you want to do any excusions (Mt. Sinai, desert safari, etc), they can generally be arranged thru your hotel.

You can't book ahead, and there is really NO reason to book ahead. When in Sharm find a Sun-n-Fun booth and sign up for the tour then. The prices should be better if you wait anyway as when you are there you can negotiate with them. The more tours, or the more people you sign up for tours will give you some bargaining power.

I got back from Cairo/Luxor just last month as part of an ancient world ( Italy, Greece, Egypt vacation ). My guide was Ahmed "ahmed4 fathalla" <[email protected]>.
He was excellent. Very knowledgeable and well spoken.

Hi 4 Bams - I have used them (Egypt Quality Tours) and recommended them, and can definately vouch for their high standards and quality, and know of others who have used them, who also said they had a fab time. And yes, they are based in Egypt.
I think their website is still a work in progress as they have only had it up and running for about a year, even though they have worked in the industry for a lot longer.
Not saying you have to use them of course, but you could get a quote from them and see if they are in your budget, and meet your requirements
