Cairo airport

We will be flying from Luxor to Cairo and then from Cairo to Rome. We only have about 1 1/2 hours between flights and I read in a guide book that there is not viable transportation between the domestic and international terminals at the Cairo airport. Is this true? Can we make this connection? We are going on a cruise from Rome that leaves that night so it is very critical that we make the connection.

I have never had to make a transfer between the terminals -but that seems awfully close! Is there a later flight to Rome - or an earlier flight out of Luxor?

I can't comment on the airport connection, but just browsing these messages.

If it was me and we were leaving on a cruise boat 'that night' from Rome I honestly would make sure I had a flight to Rome very 'early' that day if not the night before. Imagine if your flight was delayed.
I would certainly at least get a much earlier flight into Cairo or perhaps even fly to Cairo the night before, overnight, and take an early morning flight to Rome.

We would be leaving Luxor very early in the morning and the flight from Cairo to Rome gets in at 1:30 pm. The boat does not leave until 6:00 pm so it seems like we have plenty of time. I know we run the risk of having flight problems delay us and this does concern me. You can be sure I will get travel insurance if we end up doing this. But I still need to know about the terminals at Cairo and if we can get from one to the other. Anyone out there ever done this??

If I'm remembering the Cairo airport, it is possible to transfer between terminals. I've done so between the domestic and 'Hall 4' (i.e. Sharm flights). There are plenty of cabs circulating for such desperate tourists as yourself. I don't know the distance between terminals, though.

Honestly, though, that's really close, and you're relying on EgyptAir to be on time. Which is a scary thought. By the time you collect your baggage, find a cab, wind your way through the airport, I'd say too close. Is it possible for you to take an earlier flight or the train to avoid this? It might work out, but I'd rather not miss that cruise.

Even though they're in the midst of renovating Cairo airport, such basics as facilitating transfer between the domestic and international terminals have yet to be covered. If you have quite a bit of baggage, it would probably be best to hop a cab between terminals as even if you can walk the distance, Cairo Airport is utter chaos at the best of times!

Just back from Cairo- flew from Luxor to Cairo to transfer to Lufthansa flight. There is a shuttle bus between Terminal 1 and Terminal but I found it hard to locate and apparently the word "shuttle bus" is not widely known. I finally found the bus stop but could not describe how. There is an information desk outside of baggage claim. and there are cabs everywhere. Make sure you know which terminal you need- I dont think you can walk between Tewrminal 1 and Termonal 2.

Thanks for that information. We did decide to travel from Luxor to Cairo to Rome on the day before the cruise---just in case! We are on EgyptAir from Luxor and arrive in Cairo at about 8:00 am and we leave on EgyptAir from Cairo to Rome at 10:00 am. I would hope that 2 hours in between flights would be sufficient considering we are on the same airline but I also assume we have to change terminals since the second flight is international. Is this a correct assumption? Do you think they transfer the luggage to the second flight or do we have to pick up luggage and take it with us to the other terminal?

We made this three days ago.

1) The baggage will be checked to your final destination.

2) The way between terminals is about 200 meters. You just leave the domestic terminal, turn left and enter the international terminal next door. However, due to construction, signage is poor. If in doubt, ask somebody.

3) 1 1/2 hours is plenty to make the connection.

4) We found Egypt Air pretty well-organized and absolutely on time.

I just received my travel documents and found out that the flight from Luxor to Cairo arrives in terminal 1 and the flight from Cairo to Rome leaves from terminal 1. So my concern with changing terminals is now a mute point. But thank you for the information on this and on the luggage transfer. I am also glad to hear that you had no delays with Egypt Air. I feel much better now about the 2 hour connection time. I know anything can happen but at least we are doing this the day before the cruise instead of the day of the cruise. Thanks everyone for your input.
