C999- South Africa requires now that sim cards be what they call "Rica-ed". As a resident I had to provide proof of residence and my passport details. I'm not sure what they will require for a pay-as-you-go phone. Just an FYI. All sim cards must be registered because it's supposed to help catch criminals...

As for Bush Breaks and MT Beds it's difficult to pay for the deals using a credit card (their websites wouldn't allow our cards- your card has to have the Mastercard security thing, sorry can't remember what it's called). They will also tack on the 4-5% the credit companies charge them. They want cash (via EFT) only for deposit and balance payments. We used Bush Breaks for a deal in Madikwe and BB emphasized that we had to show proof of residency to the lodge but they never once asked to see it even though we're clearly American (and we had family with us that are NOT residents)...not sure how strict they would be on this policy in other game reserves.

The 10 hour layover is why I fly Delta (from the US). I had a 3 hour connection time which was perfect for my piece of mind.

thanks Kits55 - It is just those details about who can buy/use a cell phone, identification required, registration, etc. And other such unknown to me laws/regulations that bothers me. Could it cause days delay in my usage? I would need to start using it within hours, not a week later.

I've not hear of Bush Breaks, will investigate. And hard to believe that a camp would turn away revenue if the guest is there at the door with payment.

regards - tom
