Nyama,
The Bwana Mitch Web site clearly sells safaris, am I wrong?
Why so coy about who you are?

MoiraS-
PredatorBiologist is not an agent. He's a wildlife biologist. If he takes friends with him on a research trip, that hardly makes him an agent.

From a previous thread:
"Author: PredatorBiologist ([email protected])
Date: 03/28/2006, 01:22 pm
Wildlife biologist working with everything from butterflies to a federally threatned mouse to mountain lions.

Also, started a second business to bring video to the world of fantasy sports. This one is so I can one day afford to do whatever research I desire without having to score grant money and hopefully start a wildlife research training center in Botswana."

LAleslie -- the Bwana Mitch website is a non-commercial information resource for travelers. The main components are the Safari Portal, a web link catalog of accommodations and operators in Africa, and the Safari Shop, a shopping guide for Africa/safari-related books (a frontend to Amazon, Kalahari.net and/or Abebooks). It also features a frontend to a travel network in South Africa, SafariNow. The whole site is a non-profit project and doesn't feature any tax or VAT ID (required for businesses by EU/German law).

Maybe you show me where you've find any safari sales offers on this website? I'm always happy to learn.

Dennis, pass the popcorn, will you?

[I wanted to post on the Rocco threads that I harbor the suspicion that LALeslie is Rocco's ex-wife but now that she's all over Bwana--I mean nyama--I'm not so sure. And where does cooncat, who, I believe works/worked in PR, fit in?]

cooncat is smart enough to stay out of the mess.

Dennis--oops, did you see that? I wanted to know if that kinda thing could get you banned when I've seen so MUCH worse on these boards. Just my opinion, of course. Just my opinion.

I didn't see this thread until now ..... i missed most of the stuff during the overnight hours.

I said it on the other thread and will say it again now. Why do we have to share our trip reports/sightings/photographs on this site anymore? so that other people like to use all information to manipulate and scam their way booking trips for newbie visitors to Africa all in the name of luxury and exclusivity and the like????

Wake up!!!!

Cheers
Hari

Didn't people realize something doesn't fit too well when someone calls themselves an amateur photographer ..... yet they only provide pictures/on line gallery for the forum of the lodges and accomodations across Africa???

Hari, I must have missed the posts to which you're referring...?

I like this board for people like Lynn and sonali and Patty and you and Dennis and Nyamera and many, many others, too many to name, people who inspire me to travel and to return to Africa again and again.

I appreciate the "expert" advice, but of course I make my own decisions--and anytime someone's an expert, I naturally have to question his/her credentials. Especially where $ is concerned!

Well, I thought my night at home stuck doing deadline stuff would be terribly boring - not so.
This is all so disgusting...............

I like that.
Perhaps if I didn't have to do tech. drawings, I'd pour a whine with some sleaze and dish.

Hari,
I'm not sure what your getting at by saying that we shouldn't post our reports.

Nyama- Splitting hairs - internet safari portal - making $ from anyone who advertises on your site and anyone who clicks on it.

MoiraS - predatorbiologist is a safariguide. Go read past threads- he will cancel safaris if there are not enough clients for a trip. I'm not familiar with his posts so I don't know if he makes recommendations or not on accommodations or merely best places to view various wildlife.

Safarinut- I was shocked coming in here a few weeks ago. After sifting thru the threads my first thought was OMG this place is teeming with TA's.

All the, you must go on a private safari and stay in luxury tented camps persuasion to enjoy Africa, was for me alarming. This info coming from a Fodorite would be well received but coming from a TA it taints the credibility of the information and leaves me uneasy about decisions based on any info here. The answers are great here but who can you trust?

I realize the need for some type of TA organized safari but I read a NCA report that listed yearly gate receipts according to vehicle and occupants. Safari vehicles were #1 and Asian tourists in rental cars were #2. No wonder the Japanese built a new road to Ngorongoro! And would anyone on this forum have told me how to rent a car and drive to the crater lodges myself when I wanted to post that question?

I am not saying someone wouldn't have provided the info but I was afraid to ask for fear of being flamed or discouraged.

This happened in the Asia forum in 04/05. TA's and touts absolutely overran the forum. They discouraged, frightened and flamed anyone thinking of independent travel in China and anyone responding to posts of that nature. I barely gleaned any info for my trip to China. I see it has improved now.

I hope this does not become the environment in the Africa forum.

I wouldn't longer treat the forum as a valuable information source if you'd ban them all...

Here's my contribution as just a traveler http://www.tiwatiwa.com/docs/tanzania/
It's a list of gross safari prices marketed for Russians from an Arusha based safari operator.
