Will the Gura gear be available very soon? I am looking for a new bag but leave at the end of June.

I don't know how I missed the reference to the bags earlier, I usually zoom in on anything to do with bags!

I too would be interested in knowing, Andy, when your line is available. My husband calls me a bag lady, I feel it is my duty to have one of every kind. But you see, this is different - this would be for HIS photographic gear, not mine!

He has one of the Naneu Pro bags right now and loves it, but it needs to have wheels on it as we get older. (and as he buys heavier lenses) We bought a great fold up set of wheels that worked well when we went to Peru, but it would be better if it was built right into the bag. If you will be doing something like that, I'd be very interested, it would make a great Christmas present.

Congratulations Andy. The photos are just magnificent. How wonderful that they will get so much exposure.

Thanks CarlaM for posting the direct link. I, too, got very distracted by the eye candy!

Congrats Andy!! What a tremendous achievement for your photography business, well earned. It will be great that your photos will reach well beyond just the Africa crowd that already knows you and perhaps some new people will be moved to take an interest in Africa. Definitely a good campaign choice by Banana Republic, I will walk in just to see the photos and I am sure that is the draw they are counting on. Well done!

Thanks again, all, for the very kind words.

Regarding the camera bag company I am launching, the company name is Gura Gear. The web site will be www.guragear.com.

I was disappointed that there was never a bag developed for my needs, so I decided to do something about it. As we have more and more weight allowance taken away from us on international flights for our carry on item, and also if you are flying from the US you aren't allowed to lock your checked baggage, this creates a real challenge. We as photographers have to carry on all of our breakable camera gear. And the weight limits range from a high of 26 pounds to a low of 12 pounds. If you are carrying only 1 camera and 1 decent zoom lens, you could already be over your limit.

So I developed a bag that weighs less than 4 pounds, yet is the size of a decent Lowepro bag. I am working on the product photos right now, but one can have a number of cameras attached to lenses at the same time in the bag, all ready to shoot.

I have been taking prototype bags with me to Africa for the past 15 months, and I am able to have 3 cameras attached to lenses ready to go. And the harness system hides away when not in use, which is great for us as we put our bags in the seat next to us on game drives. No more shoulder harnesses going all over the place.

The bags are on a container ship in the middle of the Pacific right now, and I will hopefully receive them into my warehouse by the end of May or first week of June.

Very exciting!

More news on Andy's BR campaign -- I just noticed that the May issue of Elle magazine has a nice write- up on the campaign, which describes the tie-in between the use of Andy's images and various "green" initiatives by Banana Republic. The article features one of Andy's elephant photos, and says that BR's eco- initiatives were "inspired by adventurer and outdoor photographer Andy Biggs' serene snaps of elephants on the African savannah."

Elle is a well-respected and influential women's magazine with a huge circulation. You're on your way to being a household name, Andy!

Carla, I indeed was at Mala Mala, and I haven't had much of an opportunity to process them yet. You can see a few leopard and lion shots on my blog, though. Hopefully I will get a few more images posted later on this week. Thanks for asking!

The end of May or first week of June - Sharon, that's plenty of time to spend more money before our trip... Andy, congratulations for your recognition and beautiful work. It isn't often that fine art photographers get the respect they deserve. Fantastic!

Andy first of all excellent photo spread. Makes me wan to go to the mall to check out the photo display at the store!

Secondly I am very keen to see some shots of your photo bags. Like so many others we have many different styles at our house! We are always trying to make our carry on as small & light weight as possible but still take all the gear!

Congrats!

Andy, a friend and I visited BR today to check out your photos. We both got goosebumps as soon as we saw them. We felt like we had visited an art gallery. Very well done! We even picked up the complimentary postcards (4)of your photos & info on the way out. We were curious what they are going to do with all those photographs when the campaign is over. So happy for you.

Thanks, Carla!

I have been working overtime to overhaul my web site to take advantage of the wonderful press this is generating right now. I finally went to a BR store yesterday to go see the images, and I can say that I am very happy with the printing quality. Even though the printing process was poster type quality, they were done very well.

They will be destroying the prints when the summer campaign is over, but I will continue to sell all of the images from my web site.

Hari, I think the images will come down sometime in early August, if not a little sooner.

I am headed to San Francisco tomorrow to attend the opening party for the summer season, and will be taking some images of one of the stores out there.

How the heck did I miss this thread?! I guess living in the mountains can have that effect...

Congratulations, Andy! Wonderful news.
And wonderful work. Love the photos.
You must be elated!

I'll have to try and get to a BR store down in Denver before the campaign is over.

Andy - a big congratulations to you! I went to the mall over the weekend (hate the mall) and as we passed the BR store I noticed your picture in the window display. My daughters were with me and we just had to go in to see all of your pictures. Beautiful!!

Also, I wish I hadn't bought a new rolling camera bag last year because I would love to try yours. No budget for another new bag so soon.:'(

thanks, Cindy!

For those who cannot make it to a Banana Republic store, or for those who just won't walk into one, here is a link to my blog with some photos from the San Francisco store.
